jonathan bullock, safe standing
In The Media » Jonathan Bullock MEP - Let's move forward plans for safe standing zones at football grounds
JONATHAN Bullock MEP has called for action to re-introduce safe standing at top tier football grounds.
He said: "With World Cup fever gripping the nation, it seems an appropriate time to revisit the issue of safe standing at football matches.
"Recent reports revealed that English Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey stated clubs in the Championship and Premier League should be allowed to provide legal safe-standing sections within two years.
"It is high time safe standing should be re-introduced. It is commonplace in other countries, such as Germany, and now is time to push forward plans and allow separate areas for those who wish to stand or sit.
"Football is a fans' game - it is those fans who follow their teams through thick and thin and they are the most important part of any football club - let us redress the balance and introduce safe standing quickly.
"I hear Sports minister Tracey Crouch has stated 'her mind is open' on safe standing as she commissioned an official review of the issue."
His comments come after a petition of 112, 026 signatories. The issue was discussed in Parliament on June 25.
